Why are there so few suites in North Glenmore Park?

The data shows the gap, not the reason. North Glenmore Park had 3 permits altering existing space into a suite, 3 for suites built as new construction (the City's New work class) and 3 backyard suites from 2023 to September 2026. With fewer than five of each, the City data shows no medians.

Development permits applied for from 1 January 2023; many home projects in Calgary need only a building permit, so these are a subset of all work. The registry lists suites the City has confirmed meet the rules, not every suite that exists. Source: City of Calgary open data (building permits, development permits, secondary suite registry, census 2021 population, census 2021 households, civic census 2019, land use districts), retrieved 5 October 2026.

The registry lists 63 North Glenmore Park suites, with 14 added in 2025. Only 5 of the community's 168 development permit applications were for suites.

That may change. As of October 2026, a secondary suite is a permitted use in R-C1, the district covering most of the community, so one that follows every zoning rule needs only a building permit. The legal basement suite guide explains the current rules.

Walking a 3,000 sq ft North Glenmore Park plan at full size

At 3,000 sq ft and up, the risk is rooms that are too big as much as too small: a great room where the sofa floats, a primary suite where the walk from bed to closet is longer than it needs to be. On the studio's walkable LED floor, the plan is lit at full size, a floor at a time for large houses, with room names and dimension lines. Sofas, a dining table and freestanding walls can be moved in to see how the furniture sits.

Elevations go up on a wall-size screen behind the floor, changes appear on the floor as you make them, and you keep the session recording. Send the plans as a PDF or DWG at least three days ahead. Sessions are quoted for the plan by its size, and the quote is free: see pricing, book a session, or browse the communities hub. The king bed clearances page helps with that primary suite.
